The Le Clercq Law Firm was founded in 2004 by Ben Whaley Le Clercq, a member of the South Carolina and Florida bars in private practice since 1994.
Though a native of South Carolina, Ben is something of a “dual-national,” since he grew up in Knoxville, Tennessee. Ben attended the Webb School of Knoxville, before receiving a Bachelor of Arts in History, cum laude, from Duke University. After college Ben spent a year in Paris, France, studying French history, theatre, and literature at the Sorbonne. Upon his return, Ben received his J.D., cum laude, from the University of Tennessee. After a judicial clerkship, Ben obtained an LL.M. in International Law from the University of Miami, where he was a Ford Foundation Fellow. Ben came home to Charleston in 1996.
Ben is a founder of the Charleston Mercury, and is its chief travel correspondent, legal affairs correspondent, and legal counsel. Ben is fluent in French and Spanish, and in his spare time he is an avid surfer, sailor, and musician.
